Admissions Standards

Admission Standards

At VAST Network we focus on admitting children from families where at least one of the children is a child with a disability. In addition to having a special need, we require the following:

  • An understanding of our Doctrinal Statement
  • An ability on the part of the student and parent to benefit from the training at VAST Network
  • An agreement by the parent to work with the school to provide the best educational intervention for each individual child

When we speak of the student’s and parent’s ability to benefit from the training at VAST Network, we are speaking of several things.  First, our children have very specific needs, some educational, some medical, some both.  Often, educational needs can be rectified by proper intervention, or a willingness on the part of the parent to work with and encourage the student to complete assignments and work.  We also expect that the student will model appropriate behavior that is consistent with the integrity of VAST Network as expressed in our Policies Manual.  A student who will not conform cannot be expected to gain from their educational experience at in the home education environment, and therefore will not be admitted. Finally, parents are expected to participate in meetings and training opportunities for continued, appropriate intervention at home.
Agreement with these requirements is essential for us to form a partnership between the home, church and school.  When we are in agreement, we can work together.  We will understand, by our agreement, what it is that we are seeking to accomplish together.

Many applicants are concerned with the Doctrinal Statement. We are an outreach ministry and do not require families in our home schools to agree with this statement, only understand it. However, our training for home educators will reflect the doctrinal stance stated. All teaching will come from a Christian World View.

Many applicants are surprised by the three statements about education that appear at the end of our doctrinal statement.  These statements appear here.
With regard to the education of our children, we hold the following to be true:
1.      Parents are responsible for the education of their children, to bring them up in the Lord; they have been equipped to educate their special needs children and/or oversee the education of their children through an agent they employ.
2.      All education should reveal God in His works of Creation and Providence and lead and prepare the child to complete the purpose and mission God has created the child for.
3.      Such consciousness of God in teaching is imperative to the proper intellectual, spiritual, and moral development of children.
Every parent has a Biblical responsibility, according to the following scriptures, to train their child toward his or her purpose in God, and has been equipped by the Heavenly Father to teach and minister to the special needs child He has given them.
Deuteronomy 6 and 11

If you feel comfortable with the standards above, please feel free to apply.
