Varied Abilities School is a Christian school. We consider ourselves part of a covenant that is the interwoven ministry of home, church and school. Many times the location of all three ministries is in the home. Other times, this covenant is created by individual threads of the Christian home, the local church, and the school. Our mission is to “... advance abilities and enable parents and their special needs children to find their full potential in a healthy educational environment" by providing a home based school option to the educational thread of the covenant. We believe it is the responsibility of the parents to educate their child.
We believe that every child is created to a purpose and a mission from God. We believe that each child must be educated fully – body, mind, and spirit. We believe that a complete education will teach a child to function in our society in a Godly manner and be an asset to the Church as a whole. This can only be done if the child is taught to his/her strengths and abilities and is academically, spiritually, and socially prepared for the future God has for them. We strive to encourage them in the areas they are gifted and strengthen the areas that they find challenging. Each child’s education is designed specifically for that child through evaluation and program planning in the goals of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We recommend teaching each child about God's Pathways for them, individually, as well as academics which include reading, written expression, and mathematics. Each academic area should be taught through specific interventions designed for the child's specific situation. Educational intervention should be provided in a multi-sensory, differentiated and cooperative setting that encourages learning and provides the best education for the child. Using hands-on, art, music, games, social studies, science, life skills, manipulatives, and character education should be used to facilitate interest in learning.
